(In light of the National Interfaith Day of Prayer, South Africa – 30 November 2025)
Throughout Scripture, God [Yahweh – the Triune God] continually calls His people to a covenant relationship marked by purity, exclusivity and unwavering allegiance. Every revival in history began when God’s people returned to Him with an undivided heart. Every downfall began when they tried to mix worshipping the Living God with the altars of other gods.
In moments when nations gather for prayer, the Church carries a sacred responsibility to uphold the truth of who the true God is and Jesus as the only way to the Father. Interfaith prayer, though often presented as unity, subtly shifts the spiritual foundation of a nation. It asks believers to acknowledge, honour, or stand in agreement with those who worship idols! Scripture warns repeatedly that such mixture awakens judgement, invites deception and grieves the Holy Spirit.
The pointers in this document may help believers understand why covenant loyalty matters, why interfaith worship is spiritually dangerous and how to pray with biblical accuracy for any nation. Like Daniel, Elijah and the early Church, we are called to stand with love, clarity and courage, refusing compromise while interceding for God’s mercy upon the land.
The call to exclusive covenant loyalty
“You shall have no other gods before Me.” – Exodus 20:3
From the beginning, God’s covenant with His people has always been marked by exclusive devotion. Not shared. Not mixed. Not negotiated.
Where there is a covenant, there cannot be compromise. Interfaith prayer, no matter how noble its intentions may sound, requires believers to stand under one banner with those who worship other gods, acknowledging their prayers as equal and valid before Heaven. This violates the very core of the First Commandment (Exodus 20:3) and the entire foundation of the Christian faith.
- God does not share His glory (Isaiah 42:8).
- God does not acknowledge other gods (Deuteronomy 4:35).
- God does not receive worship offered through mixture (Exodus 32:4-10).
- Only prayer in the name of Jesus is valid (John 14:13-14).
>> Covenant Requires Exclusive Allegiance
The Lord says: “You shall not bow down to them nor serve them.” (Exodus 20:5). “You shall not fear other gods.” (2 Kings 17:35). “There shall be no strange god among you.” (Psalm 81:9)
- Interfaith prayer invites a blending of altars, voices and spiritual authorities.
- But the Bible clearly warns that shared worship leads to shared judgment.
Why Christians must not ‘agree’ with other faiths in prayer
- Choosing God alone brings blessing and stability – “Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord… he will not fear when heat comes.” – Jeremiah 17:7-8
- Diverting allegiance invites spiritual danger – “The Israelites did evil… they served Baal. Then the anger of the Lord burned against them.” – Judges 2:11-15. Covenant is not just a theological idea; it is a spiritual boundary of protection.
- Separation saves a nation – Daniel and his friends served a pagan government, but they refused to bow to the gods of that system by not eating the king’s food that was offered to idols (see the Book of Daniel). They also refused to worship the king. Their separation saved a nation, demonstrated God’s power and preserved their prophetic voice. We are called to do the same today.
Why interfaith prayer is spiritually dangerous
- It blurs who the One True God really is. Praying alongside prayers to other gods implies equal validity.
- It creates spiritual agreement with foreign altars. Agreement is powerful. Jesus said: “Where two agree…” (Matthew 18:19). Agreement in prayer is a spiritual covenant act. We cannot enter a covenant with darkness (2 Corinthians 6:14-18).
- It opens the door to syncretism in the Church. What is tolerated today becomes accepted tomorrow and embraced the next day.
- It grieves the Holy Spirit. The Spirit is holy, set apart to glorify Christ. He cannot endorse a gathering where Christ’s glory is shared with idols.
How to pray
1. Pray for a renewed revelation of covenant loyalty
“I will be your God, and you will be My people.” – Leviticus 26:12
“The Lord our God, the Lord is One.” – Deuteronomy 6:4
Prayer: Lord, open the eyes of Your people to understand the holiness, exclusivity and weight of covenant with You alone.
2. Pray for Christian pastors and leaders involved to be convicted and to separate themselves
“Come out from among them and be separate.” – 2 Corinthians 6:17
“My people perish for lack of knowledge.” – Hosea 4:6
Prayer: Father, convict pastors and leaders participating in this event. Awaken their spirits. Call them to repentance and separation from anything that mixes truth with error.
3. Pray for the Spirit of Revelation and the Knowledge of God
“Give them the Spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him.” – Ephesians 1:17
Prayer: Lord, let Your people not be blinded by unity-at-all-costs. Release discernment. Release clarity. Help Christians choose faithfulness over popularity and human values.
4. Pray for protection over the Church against deception
“Let no one deceive you by any means.” – 2 Thessalonians 2:3
Prayer: Father, shield Your Church from mixture, deception and false unity. Establish a standard of righteousness in the nation.
5. Pray for boldness to stand like Daniel and his three Hebrew friends
“We will not bow.” – Daniel 3:18
Prayer: Lord, raise up Daniels in this generation, men and women who will stand, refuse compromise and uphold the honor of Your Name.
6. Pray for national cleansing of spiritual altars
“Elijah repaired the altar of the Lord that had been torn down.” – 1 Kings 18:30
Prayer: God, let the altar of the Lord in South Africa be restored. Break the influence of false gods and interfaith altars over the land.
7. Pray for revival and a return to the fear of the Lord
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.” – Proverbs 9:10
Prayer: Lord, restore the fear of the Lord in the Church and in the nation. Let Your Name alone be exalted.
The call to the Church
In times of national pressure, God always calls His people to stand apart, not blend in. We do not oppose unity, but we do oppose unity that compromises truth. We do not reject national prayer, but we reject prayer that invites the worship of other gods. As believers, our position must be humble, loving and firm: Let us declare like Joshua: “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” (Joshua 24:15). The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. May the grace of our Lord Jesus, the Messiah, be with all of you!
A final thought
As South Africa enters this critical season, God is calling His people to return to the ancient paths of covenant faithfulness. Our response must be shaped by Scripture alone, not by cultural pressure or the fear of appearing divisive. The way forward is not anger, protest, or withdrawal. It is discernment, intercession and courageous obedience to the truth.
WE URGE THE BODY OF CHRIST TO:
- Remain unwavering in exclusive loyalty to the Lord.
- Pray with clarity and authority for spiritual protection over the nation.
- Stand in humility, refusing to bow to the demands of false unity.
- Strengthen the altar of pure worship in homes, churches and communities.
- Call pastors, leaders and believers back to biblical separation and holiness.
For those living in the vicinity of this event – ask the Lord for wisdom and consider praying on site within sight for the glory of the Lord to manifest and silence the voice of the enemy. Ask forgiveness for the Church who often does not recognise how this is unbiblical and pray for the salvation of souls on this day!
As we commit ourselves to the fear of the Lord, we can trust that He will defend His Name, purify His Church and guide our nation through this hour. When God’s people choose covenant over compromise, heaven responds with mercy, clarity and revival.
May the Lord strengthen His people to stand firm, speak truth in love and pray with boldness until South Africa returns to the worship of the One True God.
