You may remember this story Jesus told. A farmer went out to plant his seeds. He was lavish, allowing some of the seed to fall on the path or among rocks and thorns or weeds. But where the seed fell on fertile, cultivated soil, it can produce an enormous crop. The seed, Jesus said, is the gospel, and the sower is anyone who proclaims it. But some people are not ready to hear it, embrace it and let it change their lives. You can read the whole story in Matthew 13.
As Jesus says, “Whoever has ears, let them hear.”
When we share the Gospel, we may not know who is ready to hear and respond to it. Or we may think we know but be dead wrong. So let’s be faithful to keep sowing abundantly. But let’s also use the tools we have to find fertile soil… people looking for answers.
Heidi was sowing
Heidi, a Pioneer in the Middle East, uses her social media accounts to connect with people all across the region who want to know more about Jesus.
One day she opened her Instagram account to see 45 notifications that a new follower had liked her posts about spiritual things. Plus, the follower had sent her a message. It said,
“Hi… Can I ask you a question? Do you think I should become a Christian?”
Heidi quickly replied. “Of course! Let’s talk soon.” Later that week, Heidi called the young woman. They talked about Jesus and what it means to become a Christian. Heidi’s new friend decided she wanted to follow Jesus and prayed, surrendering her life to Him.
“Heidi, I feel so much joy. I don’t know what’s happening!” she wrote later that night.
It turns out this new believer is from a small town far away. “This is the beauty of media,” says Heidi. “Who knows how long it would have taken her to find a believer in that region, that is, if there are any there. In just one week, I’ve been contacted by girls in Jordan, Lebanon and Egypt seeking spiritual guidance. What a blessing it is to be part of God’s global work.”
