The greatest words ever spoken

Everyone could benefit from more godly wisdom, insight and guidance to navigate life! For Christians it is even more so, because we want to reflect Christ and be pleasing to Him. We are blessed that we do not have to look far to find what we need for life and godliness. Jesus is the greatest Man who ever walked the earth and is the Son of God. His powerful words are spirit and they are life (John 6:63).

When many of Jesus’ followers turned and walked away from Him after His teaching on partaking of His body and His blood, He asked His disciples if they also wanted to leave. But Simon Peter answered Him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.” (John 6:68).

We experience many situations and challenges every day for which we need Jesus’ perspective and His guidance. So let us take to heart the greatest words ever spoken – the very words of God that bring eternal life – to live lives that are Christ exalting and victorious.

Red letters in your Bible

Below are words that Jesus spoke on various topics. It is not an exhaustive list, so also study the rest of the red letters (Jesus’ own spoken words) in your Bible. Ask the Holy Spirit to renew your mind through them and to help you apply them in your daily life.

ANXIETY, WORRY AND FEAR

Matthew 10:29-31 – Are not two sparrows sold for a copper coin? And not one of them falls to the ground apart from your Father’s will. 30 But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. 31 Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.

Response: Father, I will not worry, fear or fret, because You are in control.

HUMILITY
John 13:14 – Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet.

Response: Jesus, show me any pride in my heart. Make me willing to serve others.

THE FEAR OF GOD

Matthew 10:28 – And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

Response: My Lord, and my God!

GENTLENESS

Matthew 5:5 – Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.

Response: Lord, teach me what it means to be meek and gentle.

HEALING

Matthew 10:5-8 – And as you go, preach, saying, ‘The kingdom of heaven is at hand.’ 8 Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons. Freely you have received, freely give.’

Response: Holy Spirit, fill me with power and boldness to heal the hurting.

FRUITBEARING

John 15:5 – “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.”

Response: I need you Lord Jesus, source of all fruitfulness! Help me abide in You.

LIVING WITH PURPOSE

Matthew 6:31-34 – But Jesus said to him, “No one, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.”

Response: The cross before me, the world behind me. No turning back!

PRAYER

Matthew 7:7-8 – “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.”

Response: I will go into the Secret place often and lay my requests before You, Father.

RECONCILIATION

Matthew 5:23-34 – Therefore if you bring your gift to the altar, and there remember that your brother has something against you, 24 leave your gift there before the altar, and go your way. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift.

Response: Forgive me Lord, for not making reconciliation a priority in my relationships.

PURITY

Matthew 5:8 – Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.

Response: God, I want to walk in purity because You are holy.

SELF-DENIAL

Luke 14:23 – Then He said to them all, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.”

Response: Jesus, I choose to follow You even though it means dying to myself.

POSSESSIONS

Matthew 6:20-21 – … but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Response: I turn my heart and treasures towards heaven, where there is eternal value.

UNITY

John 17:21 – …that they [believers] all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me.

Response: Father, I want to be one with other believers – together in You and in Your Son.

FORGIVENESS

Matt 6:14-15 – “For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.”

Response: Lord, bring to my mind those I need to forgive – help me to forgive them.

JOY

John 15:10-11 – If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love. 11 “These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full.”

Response: Jesus, I want to abide in You and experience Your joy.

GRATITUDE

Luke 17:17-18 – So Jesus answered and said, “Were there not ten cleansed? But where are the nine? 18 Were there not any found who returned to give glory to God except this foreigner?”

Response: Thank you, Jesus, for every blessing. Great are You and greatly to be praised!

FIRST LOVE

Revelation 2:3-4 – …and you have persevered and have patience, and have labored for My name’s sake and have not become weary. 4 Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love.

Response: Holy Spirit, make my heart burn with love for my Lord Jesus, as at first.

“Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock.”

– Jesus Christ (in Matthew 7:24)
