God is moving among the Third of Us in historic ways. Though we speak of this third as being “denied access” to the Gospel, the reality is that nothing can stop the power of our God. What is happening today is a testament to the promise of Christ – “I will build My church, and the gates of hell will not prevail against it” (Matthew 16:18).
Recently, missionaries came to a refugee camp in Northern Nigeria. They were told by the guards that everyone in the camp was Muslim and that no Bibles could be distributed. It used to be that refugees here were predominantly Christian – now radical groups have turned on their own people. The missionaries distributed food, clothing and medical supplies, then began to leave with the 400 Bibles they had brought.
As they were leaving, a man came up and asked, “Do you have the Christian Quran?” They knew what he meant and gave him a Bible. He ran back into the camp – and within minutes, many more followed, asking for a copy. It wasn’t long before every Bible was gone.
“We are done with Islam.”
– what many in the camp told the missionaries.
These are the miracles missionaries experience on the frontlines of gospel advance. We hear of a world in chaos when we turn on the news, and it’s tempting to tune it out. But God is also at work – drawing people to himself from all nations, very often in the midst of crisis. He allows evil to undo itself. He causes the darkness to illuminate the light.
