In this series, Hear our Prayer, we look at prayers of saints who have gone before us. May it inspire and encourage us to pray without ceasing and to cultivate a lifestyle of prayer, as they did. This is the second article in the series, featuring a prayer for holiness by Susanna Wesley.

Susanna Wesley – For holiness
Almighty God, I cannot possibly aspire vigorously toward you or have any clear perception of spiritual things without the assistance of your grace.

Only the same almighty power that raised Jesus Christ from the dead can raise this soul of mine from the death of sin to a life of holiness. I do not question that power and I believe that these desires proceed from you.

Give me faith and patience. Help me to wait for your enabling grace without discouragement, remembering the words of our Saviour, that men ought always to pray and not faint.
