Being a godly woman

Seek the LORD and His strength; seek His face evermore! (1 Chronicles 16:11).

What does it really mean to be a godly woman? Is it to be perfect? A supermom? A successful career woman? Or to be well-known in ministry?

It is all about relationship

In essence, exploring being a godly woman begins with your relationship with God, the quality of your heart-connection with His heart and understanding and praying into His will for your life. If this is new to you, you may consider some of the following thoughts.

Reflecting God’s grace as you walk out your love for the Lord obediently, closely and in all circumstances is a continuous journey of spiritual growth throughout your life. How do you become such a godly woman? One who is strong in the Lord, who has faith and stands on the promises of God’s Word amid all of life’s challenges thrown daily at you?

First things first

What is your morning routine after waking up? You can, for example, tell Him that He is your first love and that you honour Him because He is the living God of your salvation. You can ask Him to help you in your daily activities and to be present in your thoughts. Tell Him that you worship Him because He is holy, that He is worthy of your praises, that He is the Lord God Almighty, the Alpha and the Omega.

Consider how wonderful it is to draw near to the God who exists, the God who IS! We come to Him to drink, to satisfy our souls with the greatest reward He offers: Himself. Try to linger in His presence (to remain or stay in that place of His sweet presence for longer than you planned) and do not be in a hurry to leave.

And it came to pass, when Moses entered the tabernacle, that the pillar of cloud descended and stood at the door of the tabernacle, and the LORD talked with Moses. All the people saw the pillar of cloud standing at the tabernacle door, and all the people rose and worshiped, each man in his tent door. So the LORD spoke to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend. And he would return to the camp, but his servant Joshua the son of Nun, a young man, did not depart from the tabernacle. (Exodus 33:9-11). As Joshua served Moses and lingered near God’s presence, he learned where the source of Moses’ strength and power came from. It was found in lingering in God’s presence for longer.

In our relationship with God, something special occurs when we value lingering in His presence and fellowshipping together. Please consider taking time to remain in God’s presence and allow Him to transform you. The prophet Isaiah gives a promise to those who linger in God’s presence. For since the beginning of the world Men have not heard nor perceived by the ear, nor has the eye seen any God besides You, Who acts for the one who waits for Him. (Isaiah 64:4).

Remove the obstacles

One of the major obstacles to becoming and walking as a godly woman is when there is any sin in our lives. Not dealing with known sin will see you ending up very far from the godliness you desire, even approving of it, thinking that God will excuse you. As children of God, we are called to serve Him without fear in holiness and righteousness (Luke 1:74-75).

Do not allow sin to hinder your relationship with the Lord Jesus. Deal harshly with sin before it deals harshly with you and destroys your life. Habitual sins distance you from the Lord, disrupt your spiritual growth, and hinder your prayer life. Embrace your relationship with the Lord at all cost and break with everyone and anything that hinders you or pushes you away from the Lord.

Throughout the day

Continue to communicate with the Lord Jesus throughout the day. Praise and adore Him everywhere and in whatever you are doing, e.g. as you go jogging, when driving, in the workplace, etc. Express your gratitude to the Lord throughout the day. Find every opportunity to communicate with Him and sing praises to Him. This way, you ensure continuous communion and express your desire for fellowship.

Serve

Live a purposeful life and avail yourself to be used by the Lord wherever you go and in the lives of everyone you meet. In Mathew 22:37 Jesus said to the lawyer who tested Him, ‘YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND.’ When you love someone with all your heart you devote yourself to them.

As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving. (Colossians 2:6-7).

Last thought

Being a godly woman can be challenging, but it is so worth pursuing. It is a journey of continuous spiritual growth and development. A journey closer to the heart of God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Please read and pray through 2 Peter 1:2-8. Make notes of what the Holy Spirit shows you concerning your own life.
