More than half the people in Muslim-majority countries today are under the age of 30. Young Muslims are often at the center of political reform movements in their home countries, while others face the challenge of finding their way when they immigrate to the West. The unemployment rate for the Arab region of the world is nearly twice as high as global averages. Radical Muslim groups like Islamic State take advantage of this discontent and recruit frustrated youth with promises of higher purpose.
Many Muslim young people are disillusioned with Islam today. They are resistant to their parents’ traditional values. Muslim parents are worried that as their children let go of their traditional values, they will become alienated from their families.
The Muslim world is experiencing rapid change, and young people are changing along with it.
Islam encourages youthful devotion. The Quran commends young people who “believe in their Lord” (18:13) and assures them that Allah will have mercy on them if they worship only Allah (18:16). The Bible teaches: And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, and your young men shall see visions. Joel 2:28. How can a young man keep his way pure? By guarding it according to your word. Psalm 119:9
- Pray for those disillusioned with Islam to search for Truth. Pray that they will find the Truth through Christian social media posts and satellite television.
- Pray for Muslim students around the world to hear the Gospel from believing friends.
- Pray for the youth to find their true identity in Jesus Christ.
