Mobilising, training and equipping Christians for prayer

Indonesia is home to over 17,000 islands scattered across the Pacific’s Ring of Fire. Over the last year, Indonesia moved from no 38 to no 30 on the Open Doors USA’s “World Watch List for countries with the worst persecution”. The move reveals a culture shift towards a more severe religious intolerance, and the country’s politics reflect this shift.

Blasphemy Laws are being instated that opens doors for heavy persecution because there are no clear guidelines for what constitutes blasphemy. This law is especially endangering the lives of Christians.

Christians are often attacked and even killed in some places – especially the more remote areas. Christians in Indonesia made the decision to not defend themselves when they are physically attacked.

Indonesia is the country with the largest number of Muslims in the world. But it is also true that numerically more Muslims are coming to Christ in Indonesia than in any other nation. Recently about two million Muslims came to Christ in a single year. The number of Muslims that are becoming Christians is escalating.

  • Pray for Christians in Indonesia to remain firm in God’s truth and love, while living out their faith with boldness and wisdom.
  • Pray also for freedom of religion in Indonesia and for local governments to protect the rights of all citizens, even minorities.
  • There is a threat to the church that accepts people who convert to Christianity. In Islam, they would be considered apostates. The Christian life has to be lived out with tact, and if pressure against the Church continues to increase in the country, converts to Christianity could face even more challenges. Pray that God will strengthen their resolve to stay faithful to Jesus.

*Please note: Ramadan 6 May – 4 June 2019

Ramadan is an annual Muslim observance period of 30 days. During this time Muslims fast, perform certain religious duties and do personal reflection. For Muslims it is a period of increased spiritual awareness.  As Christians we desire for all Muslims to come into a relationship with God as their Father, who has shown His love for them through the sacrificial work of our Lord Jesus on the cross. Use the focus areas and prayer points that will be provided daily on this page during Ramadan. These prayer points will also be available in our Jericho Walls Prayer App so that you can receive them daily on your mobile phone. You can also download the complete Jericho Walls Prayer Guide Ramadan 2019 in English. To gain a perspective on the current reach of the Gospel in the Muslim world, view the InfographicHow ‘reached’ is the Muslim world?
