God Story
Drawn to Christianity

Taleb*, a dedicated Islamic researcher pursuing a Masters degree at a renowned Islamic university, found himself drawn to Christianity. His academic position necessitated a comprehensive understanding of various religions, prompting his exploration. A man of serenity and contemplation, Taleb embarked on a journey that would reshape his spiritual path.

Immersed in the text

During his search for information, Taleb stumbled upon one of the Arab World Media ministry websites, a platform designed to engage Islamic scholars. After filling out a form, he was contacted by Mira*, one of the dedicated responders. Mira, recognising Taleb’s academic interest in Christianity, shared a link to the Bible. Taleb immersed himself in the text.

The following discussions on fundamental Christian beliefs, such as the crucifixion, salvation, and redemption, left a memorable mark on Taleb. He confided in Mira, ‘Your words are compelling’. Mira, intrigued by his response, questioned how, as an Islamic researcher, he could make such a statement. Taleb responded, ‘When I read the Bible, I felt a profound difference. I have read the entire Qur’an several times – never did I experience the same sensation as when I read the Bible.’

Head knowledge

Mira wanted to know what Taleb understood from their discussions on salvation and the crucifixion. He answered clearly and with great understanding. Then Mira told him his knowledge was accurate, but that knowledge alone didn’t make him a Christian. Taleb needed God to work in his heart. He needed to know Jesus, not just know about Jesus. He asked what he could do to reach this point, and Mira suggested that he prays for a week and ask Jesus Christ to meet him and give him this deeper experience.

Heart experience

After four days of prayer, Taleb approached Mira with a newfound sense of peace, ‘Since I’ve been praying, I’ve felt comfort inside of me. I don’t know how to thank you enough for everything you’ve done for me. I’ve almost finished reading the New Testament, and after that, I’m going to start reading the Old Testament. My life has changed completely. I’m a totally different person – I’m praying more, and I often sit in God’s presence. I love Jesus, and I will continue my life with Him. I’m so thankful to God for the chance to talk with you, learn to pray and how to live with God.’

Sharing his faith

Then Mira spoke to Taleb about sharing his faith with others. They agreed that they would pray together once weekly for the people with whom he wanted to begin these conversations. After two weeks, he texted Mira, saying, ‘I’m really happy and praying for people around me. I’m reading the Bible and hearing God through His Word. I spend one day every two weeks fasting and praying. Thank you so much!’

After two months, Taleb had the joy of sharing his testimony with a friend. This friend, moved by Taleb’s experience, gave his life to Jesus Christ. Now, both of them are united in prayer and study of the Bible, a testament to the transformative power of faith and evangelism!
