Mobilising, training and equipping Christians for prayer

How do you pray for a leader who has brutally killed untold thousands of his own people? Why would you?

Here is the answer: “I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Saviour, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.” (1 Timothy 2:1-4)

No matter the atrocities he has committed, the simple truth is that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad is a sinner in need of the Saviour, Jesus Christ.

God wants us to pray. God desires also Assad to be saved. Only the blood of Jesus Christ is sufficient. For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.” (Romans 10:13). This is true for everybody – even brutal dictators.

  • Pray for the Holy Spirit to soften his heart towards God and the Syrian people.
  • Pray for President Assad and his family to put their faith in Jesus Christ.
  • Pray for the love of Christ to transform and compel him to love his people and restore his nation.
