Choose and start with a Bible reading plan

One often hears of a believer’s struggle to read the Bible, to pray from the Bible, or just simply to remember anything they read this morning by tonight!

Reading through the Bible is not formally recognised as a Bible study form, but it is so important. Not everyone will read through the Bible at the same pace. Neither should we feel guilty of not doing it as quickly as someone else. But it should really form a part of our time spent in our Bibles. This is one of the reasons to simply read your Bible from cover to cover at least once a year. You can also decide to listen through your Bible.

What does it take?

There are 39 books and 927 chapters in the Old Testament, and 27 books and 260 chapters in the New Testament. This means, if one would read a chapter a day it would take 1,187 days to read through the Bible, which is just about three years.  That does not sound too difficult does it?  It would take an estimated 65 hours (2 days 16 hours 15 minutes) to read non-stop through the Bible. Imagine doing this as a project in your prayer room at least 4 times a year? Proclaiming the Word of God out loud like that!

How to read through your Bible

There are different Bible reading plans. Each plan takes a different approach, allowing you to read through the Scriptures in the way that suits you best. The comprehensive plan covers the entire Bible from cover to cover; the biographical plan introduces you to each of the key persons of the Bible, including God Himself; and the survey plan hits the most important stories in Scripture quickly to give you a well-rounded understanding of the Bible. Then there are Bible reading plans where you can just read through the Old or the New Testament in 30/60/90 etc days. You can also read the whole Bible in 30/60/90/365 etc days.
