Mobilising, training and equipping Christians for prayer

This is the 3rd article in our 8-part series, entitled Bless your nation. In this series, we focus on a different area of society to be blessed. Read each article carefully and pray the blessings over your nation in faith. This week we focus our blessings on the government and judiciary.

Christians in every country must take responsibility for their own nation, believing that God can and will change the hearts of its citizens.  Our first task as believers is to ask God to change our own hearts – from a negative perspective of our nation to a faith perspective – and to trust that He wants to use us to bring about change in our nation. If you have not yet read the first article in this series, we suggest you do so before continuing with this article.

Day 1. GOVERNMENT

BLESSING: In the name of Jesus Christ, I bless the government of ____________, so that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness, for this is good and pleases God, our Saviour, who wants all men to be saved and come to knowledge of the truth. I bless our rulers, and give their hearts into God’s hands to direct them like a watercourse wherever it pleases Him so that this government may rule with justice, honesty and fairness towards all its citizens, foreigners, and the poor and underprivileged. I pray that righteousness would be established in this nation. Our struggle is not against flesh and blood, and therefore, I bless the leaders with deliverance from the powers of darkness and with protection from them. I bless the leaders with protection against witchcraft and any form of idolatry and occultism. I bless them with wise counsellors, and pray that all wicked men and women would be removed from the presence of the President, his ministers and other governmental officials.

PRAYER-WALK/DRIVE: Any government institution in your area

Day 2. GOVERNMENT

BLESSING: Continue to pronounce the 3 blessings from Numbers 6:24-26, Matthew 5:3-12 and Ephesians 1:3-4 daily over the nation.

PRAYER: Father God, today I pray specifically for the President, his cabinet members, members of Parliament and the Executive Committee. Pour out Your Spirit on them; convict them of sin, righteousness and judgment. May they respond to the love and goodness of God that leads people to repentance. May they open their hearts to receive instruction from your Holy Spirit. In the name of Jesus Christ, I resist and rebuke the forces of evil that want to destroy the nation, and which manipulate and deceive its leaders. I ask for forgiveness for the many sins of corruption, mismanagement, self-enrichment, injustice, dishonesty, lies, ungodly ideologies and criminal behaviour in governmental offices all across the nation. Bless the government, o Lord!

PRAYER-WALK/DRIVE: The main street in your community.

Day 3. GOVERNMENT

PRAYER-WALK/DRIVE: Your municipality. Join with other congregations in your area and organise a general clean-up of your community – pick up rubbish, clean graffiti, remove old posters from poles, etc.

Day 4. GOVERNMENT

I pray that these services will be honourable, act with wisdom and integrity, be compassionate and use their authority to protect and guard the citizens of this nation. Pray this Scripture: Oh, let the wickedness of the wicked come to an end, but establish the just; for the righteous God tests the hearts and minds. (Psalm 7:9).

PRAYER-WALK/DRIVE: Your local police station or prison. Get the names of the police officers or prison wardens and pray for them by name.

I pray that ____________ will walk in the plans and purposes that You have for this nation. I pray today for the salvation of people in ____________. May every citizen of this nation, and the foreigners amongst us, have the opportunity to hear and respond to the gospel of Jesus Christ. Father God, bless our nation and make us a blessing to this continent and the world.

PRAYER-WALK/DRIVE: Go to a high place in your community and read the 3 blessings from Numbers 6:24-26, Matthew 5:3-12 and Ephesians 1:3-4 over ____________.

Bless our government, o Lord!

PRAYER-WALK/DRIVE: The local magistrate office, chambers of advocates, lawyers and judges. Pray this Scripture, and ask for God to provide men and women who will execute righteousness and justice: Moreover you shall select from all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness; and place such over them to be rulers of thousands, rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens.(Exodus 18:21).

Day 7. THE NATION

PROCLAIM this Scripture over ____________: For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of His government and peace there will be no end, upon the throne of David and over His kingdom, to order it and establish it with judgment and justice from that time forward, even forever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this. (Isaiah 9:6-7).

PRAYER: Father God, let Your kingdom come, let Your will be done in ____________!
