3 Things to remember about sin

1. Sin is sin for two reasons. Firstly, God hates it because it is contradictory to his character and to his purpose with his creation, and it dishonours him. Secondly, it destroys lives – your own and those of others, and leads to rebellion against God.

2. To enter heaven your sins need to be forgiven. Humanly speaking there is nothing we can do to compensate for the bad things – the sins – we have done. What good thing can we, for instance, do to compensate for a murder? No amount of good deeds can balance or outweigh our sins.

3. To nullify the effects of sin, a terrible price needs to be paid. According to Romans 6:23 The wages of sin is death…” Scripture is clear that our sins can only be forgiven when we accept Jesus Christ as Saviour (Joh.1:12), and are cleansed by the blood of Jesus who died in our place on the cross. This is the only sacrifice acceptable to God the Father for the remission of our sins: the death of his faultless and sinless Son. Jesus, the flawless and sinless Son of God, came to pay for our sins. For justice to be served, only total sinlessness will be sufficient as compensation for our sins, and Jesus alone was that sinless – and therefore sufficient – sacrifice.
