Christ gave His followers what came to be known as the Great Commission. Matthew 28:19 and 20 reads, “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.”
It is therefore of utmost importance for every new convert and every new church to understand that this command applies to them also. This is irrespective of their situation. They need to be disciples that will make disciple-making disciples, that will make disciple-making disciples, that will… (2 Tim.2:2).
Missionaries from outside have a place to help spread the gospel and assist new believers and help with disciple-making. But the responsibility is in the first place on the shoulders of the new believers in the country of origin and the people of their own culture, ethnic group and language.
- For a deep understanding of Matthew 20:19-20 and uncompromising obedience to that command.
- To obey the command of Paul in 2 Timothy 2:2: “What you (second generation converts) have heard from me (first convert) in the presence of many witnesses entrust to faithful men (third generation converts), who will be able to teach others (fourth generation converts) also.
