After an upset win in the parliamentary elections, Iraqi Shiite leader Muqtada al-Sadr has pledged to support the Christian community. He made this vow when speaking to the Iraqi Chaldean Patriarch, Louis Sako, during his congratulatory call to Sadr. Sako is one of the leaders of Iraq’s remaining Christians. The fact that Sadr has publicly voiced a commitment to support Iraq’s Christian community is an answer to prayer. Also, Sadr made this declaration on occasion marking the start of Ramadan, which is significant timing. Iraq ranks as the eighth most challenging country in which to live as a Christian, according to the 2018 World Watch List. (Source: WIN Reporter).
- Pray for Sadr and his party to stand by their word to eradicate corruption and make good decisions for the people of Iraq. May they not only support but also protect and give voice to the Christian community (Isaiah 33:15-16).
- Pray for the protection of Iraqis who seek God’s ways.
- Pray for the Christian community to intercede for their countrymen and for the Church to be re-established in strength and boldness (2 Chronicles 7:14).
