Yemen is experiencing the world’s worst cholera outbreak in the midst of the world’s largest humanitarian crisis.
After two years of conflict there is widespread internal displacement and millions are facing famine. According to the UN, 80% of children in Yemen are in desperate need of aid and 2 million are suffering from acute malnutrition.
Destruction to the country’s infrastructure has meant that 14.5 million people do not have access to clean water and sanitation. The number of cholera cases in Yemen is expected to reach 600,000 by the end of the year and in the last 3 months alone nearly 1900 associated deaths have been recorded.
Amidst these dire circumstances, more children are being recruited to fight at a much younger age and are taking a more active role in the fighting, while child marriage is also on the increase.
Let us pray for Yemenis, including the millions of suffering children, who are in such a desperate situation of immense pain and suffering.
- That Godly-inspired leaders will pursue a peaceful resolution to the conflict
- That critical humanitarian support would increase and reach those suffering
- That relief workers in the country will be strengthened to continue their work
- That Yemenis will cry out to the Lord in these desperate times
